Mehring Yayıncılık (Mehring Books) in Turkey has published a Turkish-language edition of The Struggle against Imperialism and for Workers’ Power in Iran—A Reply to a Proponent of “Iranian Islamic Socialism.”
Written by Keith Jones, the national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party (Canada), and first published by the World Socialist Web Site in February 2018, The Struggle against Imperialism and for Workers’ Power in Iran advances a socialist strategy for the working class in a country that has been the target of US imperialist intrigue and aggression for decades.
Under conditions in which working people have begun to enter into struggle, as shown by the mass protests against social inequality in Iran in early 2018, it stresses that a viable program to defeat imperialism must be based on the working class, which must assert its interests independently of, and in opposition to, all factions of Iran's bourgeois nationalist, clerical-led regime.
The issuing of The Struggle against Imperialism and for Workers’ Power in Iran, is part of an ambitious Mehring Yayıncılık publishing program. Currently under preparation are Turkish-language editions of the 1998 International Committee of the Fourth International statement Globalization and the International Working Class: A Marxist Assessment, Soviet historian Vadim Rogovin's 1937: Stalin’s Year of Terror, and Leon Trotsky's seminal work on revolutionary leadership Lessons of October .
Mehring Yayıncılık has already published ten crucial books written by the International Committee, its sections, and leaders. At the end of 2017, it published The Heritage We Defend by David North, and four other important books and pamphlets: Castroism and the Politics of Petty-Bourgeois Nationalism; 2017 International May Day Online Rally; The Historical and International Foundations of the Socialist Equality Party (US); and Socialism and the Fight Against War .
Last October, Mehring Yayıncılık published five more books ahead of the Istanbul Book Fair. Along with David North's In Defense of Leon Trotsky and The Russian Revolution and the Unfinished Twentieth Century by David North, these publications included: Why Study the Russian Revolution? by the ICFI; Why Are They Back? by Christoph Vandreier; and 1968: The General Strike and the Student Revolt in France by Peter Schwarz. At the International İstanbul Book Fair, David North, the chairman of the World Socialist Web Site International Editorial Board and national chairman of the Socialist Equality Party in the United States, introduced the Turkish-language edition of his book In Defense of Leon Trotsky to a Turkish audience for the first time.
The Turkish edition of The Struggle against Imperialism and for Workers’ Power in Iran—A Reply to a Proponent of “Iranian Islamic Socialism” also includes three important articles published by the WSWS this past January: “Oppose Trump’s criminal war against Iran!” by the WSWS International Editorial Board; “The Suleimani assassination, imperialist strategy and the crisis of the Iranian regime” by Keith Jones, and an edited version of “US assassination of Suleimani staggers Turkish government” by Ulaş Ateşçi.
We believe that this important pamphlet on Iran will make a significant contribution to the building of sections of the International Committee of the Fourth International across the Middle East.
